C&N Trust and Financial Management Group

Posted Thursday, 16 January 2014 10:45 | Filed under C&N News

SAYRE, PA – Hezekiah’s Hands, a mission of area churches that provides home repairs to needy residents of Bradford County, has received a $250.00 donation from the C&N Trust and Financial Management Group.

The contribution is one of eight the Trust Division made to local charities during the holiday season. Each year the contributions are made to charities within the division’s market area in the name of their clients.

Each summer, teams of volunteers from participating churches spend one week working on repairs that make it possible for people to continue living in their homes. Volunteers have built wheelchair ramps, painted, repaired drywall and floors, cleaned kitchens, and done minor plumbing repairs. Additional jobs are completed as needed through the year.

There is no cost to the home owners for labor or supplies. The group holds fund raisers throughout the year to fund the repairs. Applications are processed by the Area Agency on Aging.

The C&N Trust and Financial Management Group, a division of Citizens & Northern Bank, maintains offices in Wellsboro, Sayre, Towanda, Williamsport, Coudersport and Emporium in Pennsylvania and Canisteo in New York.  The Division, founded in 1960, provides a wide range of investment, trust and retirement plan services to individuals and organizations.

COUDERSPORT, PA – Applicants are being sought for the William and Margaret Norton Scholarship Trust. The trust was created by the Nortons upon their deaths and is designed to help graduates of Oswayo Valley High School afford a post secondary education. The scholarship is open to all graduates of Oswayo Valley High School in Potter County.

The scholarship may be used for any type of post secondary education including conventional baccalaureate programs as well as vocational and trade school programs, associate degree and graduate school programs.

It was the Nortons preference that the scholarship committee favors applicants who pursue post secondary education immediately following high school graduation. The Nortons also requested that the committee consider applicants who demonstrate good citizenship character, values and motivation, academic merit, educational achievement or academic or educational promise and a degree of financial need.

Applications are now available in the Oswayo High School guidance office. Application deadline is April 15, 2014. Citizens & Northern Bank serves as the trustee of the Norton Scholarship Trust.

William N. Norton died Dec. 31, 2003 and his wife, Margaret, died May 5, 2008. William Norton was a former Shinglehouse mayor and businessman. He and his wife operated the William N. Norton Co., a block manufacturing and building supply company, later renamed Norton’s Building Supply. He was a life member and former fire chief of the Shinglehouse Volunteer Fire Department and helped organize the Shinglehouse Volunteer Ambulance Association. C&N Donates $50K To Hospital Campaign

Posted Tuesday, 22 October 2013 13:16 | Filed under C&N News

WELLSBORO, PA – Soldiers + Sailors Memorial Hospital has announced a major donation for its historic multi-million dollar expansion project as Citizens & Northern Bank presented a $50,000 check to leaders of the hospital’s Building for the Future Capital Campaign.

Citizens & Northern Bank sought to create momentum for the fund raising effort in advance of the public kickoff, which will be officially announced next month. The campaign is raising funds to support the recent two-story expansion at Soldiers + Sailors Memorial Hospital.

Developed as part of the hospital’s strategic plan, the expansion project is the result of ongoing research into the current and anticipated health care needs of Tioga County residents. The two-story addition to Soldiers + Sailors Memorial Hospital is the largest in its 70-year history, guided by long-term vision and planning for the future needs of the community.

The first floor of the 36,000-square foot expansion houses a brand new, state-of-the-art Emergency Department while the second floor accommodates a new Same Day Surgery Unit which houses endoscopy suites and an infusion area. “The number of patients our Emergency Department treats is expanding and will continue to grow in the future,” added Janie Hilfiger, President of SSMH. “The development of a new emergency department and Same Day Surgery unit were necessary in order to continue providing high quality emergency care and outpatient surgical services for all of our communities.

Hilfiger continues, “In order to realize such a large-scale project, we needed to obtain funds through a variety of sources to build our addition, including state grants, fund raising and a structured loan similar to a mortgage. Our Building for the Future campaign is currently raising donations to re-pay the loan and ensure capital will be available for future necessary projects. Thanks to long-term strategic planning, these projects place SSMH in an excellent position to meet the expanding needs of our community for the next 10 to 20 years.”

“Citizens & Northern has been committed to the well-being of its residents for nearly 150 years,” said Charles H. Updegraff, Jr., C&N chairman, president and CEO. “This contribution solidifies that commitment. We’re fortunate to have a facility such as Soldiers + Sailors in our community. It’s essential that we all support its ongoing efforts to provide our residents with state-of-the-art local health care.”
