William and Margaret Norton

SHINGLEHOUSE, PA – Applicants are being sought for the William and Margaret Norton Scholarship Trust. The trust was created by the Nortons upon their deaths and is designed to help graduates of Oswayo Valley High School afford a post secondary education. The scholarship is open to all graduates of Oswayo Valley High School in Potter County.

The scholarship may be used for any type of post secondary education including conventional baccalaureate programs as well as vocational and trade school programs, associate degree and graduate school programs.

It was the Nortons’ preference that the scholarship committee favors applicants who pursue post secondary education immediately following high school graduation. The Nortons also requested that the committee consider applicants who demonstrate good citizenship, character, values and motivation, academic merit, educational achievement or academic or educational promise and a degree of financial need.

Applications will be available after January 1, 2011 in the Oswayo High School guidance office. Application deadline is April 1, 2011. Citizens & Northern Bank serves as the trustee of the Norton Scholarship Trust.

William N. Norton died Dec. 31, 2003 and his wife, Margaret, died May 5, 2008. William Norton was a former Shinglehouse mayor and businessman. He and his wife operated the William N. Norton Co., a block manufacturing and building supply company, later renamed Norton’s Building Supply. He was a life member and former fire chief of the Shinglehouse Volunteer Fire Department and helped organize the Shinglehouse Volunteer Ambulance Association. The Nortons were both very active members of their community.

WELLSBORO, PA - Six Citizens & Northern Bank employees have been recognized for a combined 130 years of service to the financial institution. Recognized during the November service awards luncheon were:

• Janis Bartlett, teller in the Muncy Branch office, 10 years.
• Rosalie Hall, operations manager, Troy Branch, 35 years.
• Laura Losinger, CSR/Consumer Loan Specialist, Knoxville Branch, 10 years.
• Janet Saxe, CSR/Consumer Loan Specialist, Dushore Branch, 20 years.
• Carol Scranton, CSR, Wellsboro Branch, 35 years.
• Brenda Whiteley, Dushore Branch manager, 20 years.

Service awards luncheons are held regularly and hosted by C&N Chairman, President and CEO Charles H. Updegraff, Jr. C&N will recognize 43 employees for a total of 700 years of service to Citizens & Northern in 2010.

Pete Boergermann, Citizens & Northern Bank MIS Technical Support Manager, has been promoted to the position of vice president. Boergermann's promotion was approved by the C&N Board of Directors at the October meeting.

Boergermann is a 12-year C&N employee, having spent his entire career with the financial institution in the Management Information Systems area.

A graduate of Wellsboro High School, Boergermann is also a graduate of the Pennsylvania Bankers Association's School of Banking at Penn State. He was honorably discharged from both the U.S. Air Force and the U.S. Army National Guard.

He is a board member for New Covenant Academy and an elder at the Church of the New Covenant, both in Mansfield.

Boergermann and his wife, Cassie, have three children and live in Wellsboro.

Williamsport, PA - Throughout the holiday season, Citizens & Northern Bank’s six Lycoming County offices will be collecting non-perishable food items for the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank.

Collection barrels will be placed in each office beginning November 1st. The public is invited to visit any of the participating offices to donate food items to the food bank. Participating offices include:

• Jersey Shore – 230 Railroad Street
• Muncy – 3461 Route 405 Highway
• Old Lycoming – 1510 Dewey Avenue
• Ralston – 24 Thompson Street
• South Williamsport – 2 East Mountain Avenue
• Williamsport – 130 Court Street.

The collection is an annual event for C&N’s Lycoming County offices. “This is a very important event for our Lycoming County offices,” said Stacy Elliott, Old Lycoming branch manager. “The need is especially great this year, which is why we have expanded our collection dates to include both the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. We hope the community will become involved in this collection to help their neighbors in need.”

The Central Pennsylvania Food Bank distributes more than 15 million pounds of food and grocery products every year to more than 500 soup kitchens, shelters, and food pantries in 27 central Pennsylvania counties.
